The guilds (including the Ciompi, the most modest and hardworking) are born. Guelfi and Ghibellini and then the Medici Grand Dukes of Tuscany and for 3 centuries Florence reached its maximum artistic and commercial splendor. 1700 the Lorraine for another 2 centuries until annexation to the Kingdom of Italy in 1860
