The artisanal editions we have created originate from antiquity, and reproduce their ancestors in every smallest detail.

The "Simplicist" in the title was the scholar of medicinal herbs, or rather, of the "simples", the plant varieties with medicinal virtues. In Florence there is the "Garden of Simples", created in 1545 at the behest of Cosimo de' Medici.
This book is a wonderful text on the properties medicinal, officinal, medicinal and culinary of plants, flowers, herbs and roots, from the most common to the rarest, even the poisonous ones. Each is accompanied by beautiful reproductions of ancient etchings.
The drawing reproduced on the cardboard cover is a miniature of the colored internal parchments; for the leather book, the external embossing is the frontispiece of the Ancient Recipe Book kept at the Museum of the History of Science in Florence.
In the first part you will find information on the history of medicine since prehistory: Shamanism, preludes of Hippocrates, Galen, Benedictine Gardens, Salerno School, up to the Garden of Simples.
Information on schools where the doctor was also a sort of sorcerer: Esotericism, the Seven Teachings, the Alchemy of the four elements and other information on The Emerald Tablet, Numerology, Kabbalah, Green Alchemy.
Then you will find the Old recipes and folk remedies: cough and cold, acetylsalicylic acid, elixir of long life with ground magic stones and pure gold.
Inside, the colored parchments depict some plants in their entirety, with an angel indicating the part of the plant to use, and at the bottom is the healing purpose of the plant (the Mandrake, for example, a hallucinogenic and aphrodisiac plant; but also herbs to cure dog bites, snake bites or chickenpox).

Reprint of theold booklet published in 1796, originally used by children as a reading and general culture text in State Middle Schools, also known as the Little Green Book, designed to pass down the traditions of the Tuscan land.
It is a delightful collection of sayings, nursery rhymes, and Tuscan refrains: every page is a dive into the wisdom of our grandparents... "February, little February, short and cursed month"; "Windy February, loving February." There are also proverbs, little songs, riddles from the era and lyrics of the melodies "lullaby" to put children to sleep.
Each chapter opens with short descriptions of all the cities in the region, from Florence to Pisa to Livorno, with curiosities and ancient traditions, local festivals, periods for harvesting vegetables, typical dishes and foods, famous local figures among painters, inventors, and musicians. It can be said that the Tuscan Almanac was the first "Michelin Guide" in history.
Each page is enriched by beautiful reproductions of original ink drawings from the book, making it a timeless decorative piece.

The text of the book is part of the collection "Last Essays of Elia" by Charles Lamb, first published in book form in 1833.
The American editions were published in Philadelphia in 1828. At the time, American publishers were not bound by copyright law and often reprinted material from English books and periodicals; thus, the American collection of the Last Essays preceded its British counterpart by five years.
This book that we have reprinted was illustrated by the famous English artist Walter Crane, and was printed in 1901 by the British company Cassell and Company Limited. You will find these references on the first pages.
The reprint was made both in the original English and in Italian.

The books are all made with Florentine paper and ancient lithography techniques. The details, spines, or the entire cover are in Tuscan calfskin leather. The carton-wood components are aged using traditional methods.
The Tuscan Almanac is an impeccable gift for history lovers, for those looking for an original item from Florence and Tuscany, for those who want to discover more about this beautiful region without giving up Art and beauty.
The Herbarium is a legendary and unique edition, for the history of medicine it recounts and for the charm with which it approaches it. It will be greatly appreciated by a Doctor or a Physician. It will be a precious and beloved gift especially for a Herbalist or a Naturopath. It will also be a perfect gift for nature, plant, and flower enthusiasts. Witches and those curious about "grandmother's remedies" will be fascinated by the curiosities and information they will find inside.
The text of a book bound and aged by hand, artisanal and in an antique style, is certainly an elegant tribute that can fascinate whoever receives it. Let yourself be inspired by our unique and rare objects with the charm of history and art.
